Lamp flats
Responsible
Science Operations

Phase
Daytime

Frequency
Once every day

Purpose
Calibrate inhomogeneities in the instrumental transmission and detector responsivity.

Procedure
 * Take WCU "lamp off" frames
 * select illumination level (repeat for all relevant, i.e. observed, illumination levels)
 * Select the instrument setup(s) (e.g. camera, filter, coronagraphic masks etc.) with which science observations have been performed in the night before
 * select DIT such that about half the detector full well capacity is reached (possibly select from list of allowed exposure times)
 * take a small number of exposures (5-10, tbc)

Pipeline data products
 * Gain maps for LM/NQ IMG cameras (possibly also bad pixel map, see discussion in Dark Frame calibration)

Prepared observing blocks
(tbd)

Prepared templates
 * METIS_img_lm_cal_LampFlat
 * METIS_img_nq_cal_LampFlat

Pipeline support
 * Subtract dark (LM only) from each frame
 * compute average of frames for each illumination level
 * compute linear regression for each detector pixel
 * normalise

Duration
about one hour per camera, two hours in total, including lamp warm-up time (tbc)

Prerequisites
 * None. METIS is explicitly designed for being insensitive (and to not affect) other instruments / day time operations, so that flat field measurements can be taken at any time during the day.

Required Accuracy
(tbd)

Expected Accuracy
Limited by flatness of lamp illumination, stability of detector gain; expected accuracy: 1% (NQ; as in VISIR, \cite{claret2003}); similar for LM.

Notes
 * The flat field is also part of a more generic template to measure the detector linearity. While the full linearity curve will only be determined once / occasionally, however, we intend to perform an imaging flat field every day.
